5 Best Kids’ Dentists in Sydney for Happier Smiles

Children’s dental expertise. I separated family dentists from paediatric specialists, then checked their experience with growing teeth and complex needs.

Gentle behaviour management. I looked for calm introductions, nitrous oxide and hospital-based anaesthesia options. Nitrous oxide usually keeps children awake.

Weekend and emergency care. I checked appointment availability and support for chipped teeth, toothaches and playground mishaps.

Costs and payment options. I compared price estimates, payment requirements and available government subsidies.

I’ve just gone through wisdom tooth removal, so I’m hardly eager to see another dental chair. Still, my young niece needs an age-appropriate dentist who won’t make her dread every check-up.

The best kids dentist in Sydney should know how to calm little nerves and make healthy habits feel fun. A cheerful clinic and plenty of patience can work wonders with wary young patients.

So, I searched Sydney for paediatric specialists and family dentists who understand growing smiles. Here are some practices worth considering for everything from routine cleans to playground mishaps.

How much does going to a kids dentist cost in Sydney?

Private kids’ dental check-ups in Sydney generally cost $50 to $120. A comprehensive first visit with X-rays may cost $150 to $300.

A single intra-oral X-ray costs around $45 per film. Basic fillings or extractions typically range from $150 to $350 or more.

Early interceptive orthodontic treatment costs about $3,000 to $4,000. Traditional metal or ceramic braces may cost $7,800 to $10,000 or more.

Clear aligners, such as Invisalign, generally range from $5,500 to $8,500. Final prices depend on the treatment’s complexity and whether your child sees a general dentist or specialist.

Eligible families may receive basic care for $0 out of pocket through the CDBS. The clinic must bulk-bill, and the child must have enough benefits remaining.

1. Midway Dental Clinic Ryde

midway-dental-clinic-ryde

Website
Address: Shop G8, 117 North Road, Midway Shopping Centre, Ryde
Contact: (02) 9878 4363 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday–Saturday, 7 AM–7 PM; Sunday, 9 AM–5 PM

Between school runs, weekend sport and my own lingering wisdom tooth drama, flexible dental hours feel like a small miracle.

Midway Dental Clinic Ryde opens seven days and offers family dentistry with dedicated care for younger smiles.

What caught my eye was its practical mix of children’s services, including fissure sealants and custom sports mouthguards.

The team can monitor developing teeth, flag possible orthodontic concerns and help children become more comfortable with regular check-ups.

Its early starts and evening appointments give busy families more room to work around school and weekday commitments.

Sunday availability is another welcome perk when a toothache or playground mishap refuses to follow the family calendar.

However, Midway is a mixed family practice rather than a children-only clinic. Parents seeking specialist paediatric care for complex behavioural, developmental or medical needs may prefer a dedicated practice.

Pros

  • Open seven days with early and evening appointments
  • Offers fissure sealants and custom sports mouthguards
  • Monitors developing teeth and possible orthodontic concerns
  • Provides dental care for the whole family

Cons

  • Not a children-only dental clinic
  • Complex cases may require a paediatric specialist

Address: Suite 503, Level 5, 35 Spring Street, Bondi Junction
Contact: (02) 9386 9600 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday–Wednesday, 8 AM–5 PM; Thursday–Friday, 10 AM–3 PM

Some children need more than a cheerful sticker and a brave face to settle into the dental chair. That’s where Dr Nita Pai’s specialist paediatric training and experience with complex needs caught my attention.

She holds a master’s degree in paediatric dentistry and previously headed Disability Dental Services in West Perth.

Her Bondi Junction practice focuses entirely on infants, children and teenagers, so everything is designed with younger patients in mind.

The team also treats children with special needs and adapts care according to each patient’s ability to cope.

Nitrous oxide and hospital-based general anaesthesia are available when appropriate, with the safest approach chosen after an assessment.

And I love how families receive a treatment plan outlining expected dental, hospital and anaesthetic costs before major procedures. It’s the sort of clarity I’d want before my niece’s appointment turns into a bigger dental production.

However, major treatment requires some financial planning. Full payment is due at least one week beforehand, including procedures performed under general anaesthesia.

Pros

  • Specialist paediatric dentist with advanced training
  • Treats infants, children and teenagers exclusively
  • Experienced with special needs and complex dental care
  • Offers nitrous oxide and hospital-based general anaesthesia

“Dr Pai and her team were incredibly patient and gentle with my two-year-old, making what could have been a stressful visit into a fun adventure.”

My wife and I were absolutely thrilled with our experience at Dr Nita Pai’s Kids Dental Practice! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, perfect for little ones. Dr Pai and her team were incredibly patient and gentle with my two-year-old, making what could have been a stressful visit into a fun adventure.

They explained everything clearly, putting my child and us at ease. Whilst the thought of our little one having a general anaesthetic was daunting, Dr Pai’s team and Dr Gupta (the Anaesthetist) did the most incredible job…

“A great dentist that your kids are not scared to visit”

Dr Pai and her team were extremely professional whilst being friendly and fun at the same time. Our 6-year-old required an operation to remove a tooth, and we were pleasantly surprised by how efficiently the day ran, and his recovery was excellent. The follow-ups were greatly appreciated too. It’s great to have such a good dentist that your kids are not scared to visit.

A child’s dental visit is tricky enough without important details getting lost in translation. That’s why North Shore Paediatric Dentistry’s multilingual specialist team immediately caught my attention.

Dr Yvonne Chau provides care in English and Cantonese, helping more families discuss treatment without an awkward game of dental charades.

She works alongside other specialist paediatric dentists who understand young patients’ clinical, emotional and behavioural needs.

The clinic handles restorative work, dental trauma and urgent concerns, with same-day emergency appointments available.

Its team supports children with additional medical, developmental or behavioural needs and offers sedation or hospital-based general anaesthesia when appropriate.

The child-centred approach may make an already stressful trip feel a little less daunting.

4. Children’s Dentistry

Website
Address: 329 Old Northern Road, corner Brisbane Road, Castle Hill
Additional location: Shop 25, 2 Lakefront Crescent, Gables
Contact: Castle Hill—(02) 9634 4844 | Gables—(02) 9188 2845
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–6 PM; Saturday, 8 AM–5 PM

Some toddlers treat an unfamiliar dental tool like it’s come straight from a monster movie. Children’s Dentistry takes a gentler route, using preventive and minimal-intervention techniques to help young patients feel more at ease.

The team offers fluoride treatments and fissure sealants to protect growing teeth before trouble starts. When decay reaches the nerve, they may consider a pulpotomy to preserve the tooth where clinically suitable.

I like that families can choose between clinics in Castle Hill and Gables. Plus, Saturday appointments until 5 PM are especially handy when school, sport and my niece’s packed social calendar swallow the working week.

But while the practice treats children and anxious patients, it isn’t exclusively staffed by registered paediatric specialists.

Parents wanting specialist-led care for complex medical, developmental or behavioural needs should confirm whether a referral is more appropriate.

It’s also worth noting that both locations close on Sundays. Families needing in-person care that day may have to contact another available emergency dentist.

Pros

  • Uses preventive and minimal-intervention techniques
  • Offers fluoride treatments and fissure sealants
  • Provides tooth-preserving options when clinically suitable
  • Has locations in Castle Hill and Gables
  • Offers Saturday appointments until 5:00 PM

Cons

  • Not exclusively staffed by paediatric specialists
  • Both locations are closed on Sundays

“The reception team were amazing at helping my son feel comfortable and confident to open his mouth”

We’ve had consistently wonderful experiences at the Children’s Dentistry. The dentists are always caring and patient with our kids. We usually see Dr Lara, who is fantastic, and during an emergency for a knocked tooth we saw Dr Astrid, who was equally wonderful. The reception team were amazing at helping my son feel comfortable and confident to open his mouth — and the little prizes at the end are such a lovely touch. Exceptional care all round! The fit-out is amazing for kids as well! Highly recommend!

Lovely calm experience with Dr Sarah and all staff. Effective communication and care, and use of cognitive distraction techniques – my child was unaware a needle was even used on his gum! Some dental problems need more than a quick check-up and a colourful sticker on the way out.

Norwest Paediatric Dentistry brings specialist paediatric dentists, oral health therapists, surgeons and anaesthetists together for complex cases.

The team treats severe decay and chalky molars while adapting care for neurodivergent children. It supports patients with autism, AuDHD, ADHD, disabilities and complex medical needs.

Nitrous oxide and general anaesthesia are available when clinically appropriate, depending on the child and treatment involved.

Plus, the clinic reserves daily spaces for urgent concerns, which I’d appreciate if my niece’s toothache suddenly came with facial swelling.

Families dealing with dental trauma or facial swelling can contact reception directly for guidance. That exception is useful when waiting for paperwork is the last thing anyone needs.

However, Norwest is a referral-based specialist practice rather than a replacement for the family dentist. New patients generally need a referral, while routine check-ups are directed to local general dentists.

Pros

  • Multidisciplinary specialist paediatric team
  • Treats severe decay and chalky molars
  • Supports neurodivergent children and complex medical needs
  • Offers nitrous oxide and general anaesthesia
  • Reserves daily appointments for urgent cases
  • Accepts direct enquiries for trauma and facial swelling

Cons

  • New patients generally require a referral
  • Routine check-ups are directed to general dentists
  • Closed on weekends

“Our third visit to Norwest Paediatric Dentistry and another success!”

Our third visit to Norwest Paediatric Dentistry and another success!

Arriving early allowed us time to build a ‘creation’ with Bluey playing quietly on the TV in the background. I only wished we had more time to read a book; there’s a great collection of thought-provoking kids’ books.

The same comfort and care, explaining every step of the way, why they use the tools they do, how they might feel in their mouth, etc.

The choice of a ‘prize’ at the end (Harry Potter keyring being the selection this time) and leaving with a sparkly smile…

My children have had their share of issues with their teeth and are looked after by the team here on referral from our general family dentist. They are having good outcomes now and are on track for lifelong healthy teeth with the care they are receiving. Their gorgeous smiles are being helped in these early years, both physically and emotionally…
