5 Best Arborists in NSW to Keep Your Trees in Shape

  • Qualifications and Insurance: I looked for relevant arboriculture credentials and current insurance. Tree work’s risky enough without guessing who’s covered.

  • Service Range: I checked which jobs each team offers, from pruning to storm clean-up. A wider range could save me a second call.

  • Council Know-How: I favoured teams familiar with local tree rules. It helps when paperwork stands between me and that problem branch.

  • Safety Practices: I looked for clear work plans and suitable equipment. Bringing a chainsaw is only the beginning.

  • Client Feedback: I read recent reviews for patterns in punctuality, care and clean-up. One glowing rating won’t sway me on its own.

I once watched a tree removal crew work on the Gold Coast, and the precision was something else. They brought down a hefty tree without so much as rattling the neighbour’s fence!

Back in NSW, towering gums and coastal storms can make a dodgy branch feel a lot less harmless. That’s when I want someone who knows exactly where it’ll land.

So I’ve rounded up contenders for the best arborist in New South Wales. They’re worth a look when your trees need expert attention.

How much does it cost to hire an arborist in New South Wales?

Arborist labour and consulting typically cost $90–$180 per hour.

Removing a small tree under 5 metres costs around $250–$800. For a medium tree between 5 and 10 metres, expect $800–$2,500. Large trees over 10 metres can cost $2,500–$15,000 or more to remove.

A basic health report for one tree costs about $350–$900. A detailed report for a development application or council submission costs $800–$2,500.

Note that these are guide prices. Tree size, site access and timber removal can affect your quote.

1. Arbor Pride

Address: Unit 1 / 10 Pioneer Ave, Thornleigh

Contact: 1300 887 417

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Arbor Pride caught my eye because they don’t treat every troublesome tree as a candidate for the chainsaw. Their team handles pruning and tree care alongside removals, which gives you options when a mature gum needs attention.

The company has more than 20 years of industry experience and holds three ISO certifications covering quality, environmental management and workplace safety.

The team includes Level 5 arborists who can assess trees and prepare reports for council applications. If you’re building near established trees, Arbor Pride can draw up tree protection plans to help safeguard roots and canopies.

They offer stump grinding and emergency tree removal too, so a storm-damaged garden needn’t become a guessing game.

The catch is that routine office enquiries are limited to weekdays, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM. If your only free time is Saturday, you’ll need to plan your call ahead.

Pros

  • Pruning, tree care, removal and stump grinding
  • Level 5 arborists for assessments and council reports
  • Tree protection plans for construction projects
  • Emergency tree removal
  • Three ISO certifications listed by the company

Cons

  • Routine office enquiries are limited to weekdays

Excellent job

First-class experience, right from quoting to booking to delivery on the day. Wonderful arborist team (Rob, Jordan and team). Excellent job, cleaned up and just a joy to connect with. I’ve dealt with other arborist companies – none like this.

Highly recommend

Excellent experience all around. Julian, the arborist who came to quote, provided expert advice all around. The removal of two trees was carried out quickly and efficiently at a very competitive price. Couldn’t fault it and highly recommend this company.

A branch looming over the roof is enough to make me put the secateurs down. Sydney Tree Company handles the fiddly jobs, from tight-access pruning to removing trees close to buildings and power lines.

They’re family-owned and say they’ve operated for more than 17 years. Their team is qualified to work around high-voltage wires, in rail corridors and at heights above 20 metres, too.

I like that they offer free on-site quotes, so you can show them the problem before discussing a price.

They handle tree removal, pruning and stump grinding, which could spare you the hunt for another crew.

Their listed service areas focus on Sydney, though, so regional NSW owners should check coverage before making plans. If your tree is well beyond the city, they may not be the most convenient crew to call.

Pros

  • Free on-site quotes
  • Pruning, tree removal and stump grinding
  • Experience with tight-access jobs
  • Says its team is qualified to work around power lines, in rail corridors and above 20 metres

Cons

  • Service areas focus on Sydney

Most professional

These guys are the most professional and nicest guys! I had a particular project which was really, really tough, and I went to another arborist, and they didn’t want to touch the project for fear of damaging our house, as the house was originally built around the tree. They took time and patience and took the project slow to take preventative steps to remove the tree. The best part is we were able to keep the wood to turn into other neat furniture pieces around the house.

Thankyou Abdul, am very pleased with the job and the price. Qualified Arborist Anthony and his team were very efficient in the removal of approximately 30 sq meters of Bamboo and Bamboo roots. Professionally completed and cleaned up neatly. Qualified Arborist Anthony provided professional advice on a range of maintenance and re-planting issues with the job, and even professionally trimmed the adjoining hedge. Thank you. Experienced professional company, highly recommended. Will be having you back for future work. Much appreciated.

3. Shane’s Trees

Website

Address: 22/10 Yalgar Rd, Kirawee

Contact: 02 9528 4507

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 AM – 4 PM (24/7 emergency call-outs)

A block full of stubborn trees can put a building project on pause before the first brick arrives. Shane’s Trees handles land clearing and tree removal, so builders and homeowners can move forward with a clearer path.

They’re a family business led by a second-generation arborist, and their team includes arborists with higher-level qualifications for tree assessments.

They prepare reports that can support council applications, which is handy when a protected tree complicates the plans.

I like that they handle pruning and stump grinding too, because clearing a site rarely ends with one fallen tree. They offer wood chip mulch as well, giving all that cut timber a more useful next chapter.

However, routine enquiries follow weekday business hours, so an after-work call may have to wait. If a storm causes an urgent tree problem, though, they advertise 24/7 emergency callouts.

Pros

  • Second-generation family arborist leadership
  • Climbers qualified up to Cert 8
  • Complete land clearing and mulch recycling
  • Comprehensive reports for council development applications

Cons

  • Relatively small team covers a massive interstate territory

Good service

I engaged Shane’s Trees to remove dead limbs from the gum trees in the backyard as I was concerned about them falling, causing potential injury or damage.  The team arrived promptly at the time stated and proceeded to review the trees.  They set up their equipment and started work, and continued through to the finish in a very efficient and safe manner.  When I spoke with the arborist before he left, I felt confident about the work done and the trees.  Well done, all.

The service provided by Shane’s Trees was fast, value for money and professional. Scott the Arborist came on time, and Kyle and the team arrived the same day. The work was done straight away. Kyle checked in regularly to ensure we were happy. Kyle and the team cleaned up the yard, and we’re so careful to prevent any damage. I would recommend making a booking with this company if you need a tree pruning or removal service. They are fantastic.

4. Branch Out Tree Specialists

Website

Address: 20 Ocean St N, Bondi

Contact: 0481 788 278

Hours: 24/7 emergency support

When a storm leaves a branch dangling over the roof, I’d want someone who knows their way around a tree and answers the phone. Branch Out Tree Specialists advertises 24/7 emergency support, alongside pruning, removals and tree assessments.

Owner James Vineall founded the Bondi business in 2019 and brings more than 15 years of arboriculture experience.

Their team works across several Sydney districts, tending trees in gardens where every fence and flowerbed seems to be in the way.

I like that they offer crown lifting and thinning when a tree needs attention rather than removal. They handle stump grinding and hedging too, which is handy if the garden needs more than one kind of tidy-up.

However, their service areas focus on Sydney’s inner and coastal districts, along with the North Shore and Sutherland Shire. If you’re farther west, you’ll need to check if they cover your suburb before booking routine work.

Pros

  • 24/7 emergency support
  • More than 15 years of arboriculture experience from owner James Vineall
  • Pruning, crown lifting and thinning
  • Tree assessments, removals, stump grinding and hedging

Cons

  • Service areas focus on inner and coastal Sydney, the North Shore and Sutherland Shire

Well done

We’ve used Branch Out Tree Services on a few occasions now. We live on a difficult site with narrow access. Nothing is too much trouble, and I know I can just leave it to them.

They are punctual, professional and very tidy. Every scrap of mess was cleaned up. Also, their prices are very fair. I’d be happy to personally recommend them to anyone who needs tree surgery/arborist work done. Well done, Jimmy and team. Keep up the good work.

Best in the business

Jimmy and the boys at Branch Out Tree Specialists are by far the best in the business. I own a landscape company, and Jimmy does all our arborist/tree work. No job is too big or too small for them. Jimmy is an absolute pleasure to deal with; you know you are going to get the best job done, the first time.

5. Northern Beaches Arborist

northern-beaches-arborist

Website

Address: Bindi Pl, Beacon Hill

Contact: 0423 914 950

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 7 AM – 5 PM

When a gum tree looms over a tight Northern Beaches block, I’d want a crew that checks the site before reaching for the saw. Northern Beaches Arborist assesses the tree, access and safety risks before quoting the work.

They offer pruning, tree removal and stump grinding for homeowners and strata properties. Their AQF Level 5 arborist reports can support development applications and council submissions when paperwork joins the to-do list.

I like that they offer a free site quote, so you can discuss the job before committing. They say their crews remove debris and leave the site tidy, which matters when there’s barely room to move around the garden.

Do note that their Google-listed regular hours run Monday to Saturday, leaving Sunday out of the usual booking window. If that’s your only free day, you’ll need to arrange the work ahead of time.

Pros

  • Free site quotes
  • Tree pruning, removal and stump grinding
  • AQF Level 5 arborist reports for council and development applications
  • Site assessments that consider access and safety risks
  • Debris removal included in the described clean-up

Cons

  • Regular hours exclude Sundays

Highly recommend

Excellent service from Northern Beaches Arborist! They tackled our overgrown wall of bamboo quickly and left the place spotless on both sides of the fence. We’re very happy, and so are the neighbours. Highly recommend!

Definitely 5 stars

I’d highly recommend The Northern Beaches Arborist! We had a very large Angophora removed from close to the house, which had multiple power and internet lines around it as it was between two houses. The team did an incredible job taking it down carefully and left the garden in great shape at the end. Definitely 5 stars!
