The 5 Best Personal Trainers in Canberra for Your Fitness Goals

Service Range: I looked at options that offer customisable routines and individual fitness guidance. That way busy professionals and absolute beginners can both find a format that matches their schedule.

Pricing Flexibility: I prioritised studios with clear structures like single sessions or weekly memberships instead of rigid lock-ins. Affordable group rates make sticking with your training much easier over time.

Trainer Qualifications: I focused on coaches who hold proper certifications and clearly understand movement mechanics. This means you get accurate form corrections and safe technical support during intense workouts.

Location Accessibility: I made sure each gym sits within easy reach of the metro area to cut down travel stress. I also weighed their private layouts, open gym floors, and overall facility comfort.

Sticking to a routine is incredibly tough when a packed schedule leaves you feeling completely drained.

Because true wellness is a balancing act between mind and body, managing stress or mental fatigue with the best best psychotherapists in Canberra is often just one piece of the puzzle.

To truly thrive, your physical health needs that same level of dedicated, expert support. Hiring a professional personal trainer provides the precise accountability, tailored workouts, and structural guidance required to reach your goals safely.

To help you find the perfect match for your fitness journey, we’ve put together a guide to the top local coaching options in Canberra. Let’s get started!

Hours: Monday-Friday, 11:00 AM-9:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM-8:00 PM

Reaching peak physical performance takes a careful balance between your exercise workload and your mental recovery, which is the focus at Move Better Feel Better Training.

Putting off your physical health or ignoring a nagging injury is a lot like delaying a painful wisdom tooth removal. The longer you avoid dealing with the discomfort, the worse it gets.

Fortunately, Move Better Feel Better Training specializes in taking the dread out of recovery. Here, they focus on highly customized one-on-one sessions that actively counter physical burnout.

Their lead coach holds university degrees in both sports science and psychology, bringing a rare, deep understanding of both human movement and mental resilience to your fitness journey.

Plus, workouts take place in a cozy private layout that can be fully curtained off for total isolation. They even throw in a complimentary 30-minute assessment chat to map out your goals safely.

The main limitation is that if you prefer exercising alongside a massive group of friends, their semi-private sessions are strictly capped at six participants.

On the bright side, that tight cap means you get the elite, hyper-personalized attention your body needs to heal and grow stronger.

Pros

  • Dual sports science and psychology qualification
  • Fully curtained private training areas
  • Complimentary initial assessment consultation
  • Identical pricing for remote video sessions

Cons

  • Identical pricing for remote video sessions

Customer Reviews

Knowledgeable and enjoyable sessions

My husband and I have been training with Matt for six months now and it’s been great. Matt is very knowledgeable and makes each session enjoyable. He explains why you are doing a particular movement, as well as the correct technique. I was nervous about PT being exhausting or too hard, but that isn’t the case at all. It has been satisfying to see real progress in our fitness and strength.

– Bronwen Jaggers | Google Review

Accessible and inclusive

I had the opportunity to have a PT session with Matt today. I found him accessible, inclusive and knowledgeable, and I took a lot away from the session. Matt is really close to the Convention Centre, so if you’re in Canberra for a conference, do yourself a favour and book in a session with him.

Customer Reviews

Friendly neighbourhood feel

Best gym I have ever been to, especially since I’m more a fan of neighbourhood gyms rather than chain gyms. This one feels and IS friendly. They look after this middle-aged man very well. Tim is my personal trainer and I believe he is the manager of PT at the gym. He is superb, thoroughly recommended.

– Craig Rippon | Google Review

Welcoming and helpful trainers

Fitness First Canberra is awesome. Gordana, Baxter, Kim, Mickey and my favourite Joey are welcoming, friendly, approachable and always helpful. Dom, personal trainer, knows his stuff and is constantly pushing me. I’m enjoying Pilates sessions with Amanda and see this as a great bonus to my membership. The gym has a good range of equipment and is essential in keeping me physically and mentally healthy. Recommend highly.

Website: http://thrivept.net/

Address: Unit 3, 21 Marcus Clarke St

Contact: 0405 385 981

Hours: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-3:30 PM

Chasing permanent body changes or specific performance goals takes an experienced professional who understands long-term health, and that’s where Thrive Personal Training shines.

Head trainer Megan crafts entirely individualised, one-on-one programs that focus on your structural strength and physical conditioning.

From what I’ve observed, she ensures that the workouts support sustainable longevity rather than temporary quick fixes.

The studio also promotes a green, eco-friendly approach by encouraging clients to walk or carpool to sessions. They even provide a detailed parking map on their contact page to reduce morning travel stress.

Just note that they enforce strict 24-hour cancellation rules, so missing an appointment without sufficient notice results in a full-session charge. That policy keeps the schedule fair, and it is easy to work around with a little planning.

Pros

  • Tailored strength and conditioning plans
  • Clear website parking guide map
  • Eco-friendly green transit initiatives
  • Focused on long-term physical longevity

Cons

  • Strict 24-hour cancellation fee

A fabulous trainer

Megan is a fabulous trainer. I started training with her a few years ago to build strength, and she has worked with me to increase it steadily. Her understanding that life does not always go to plan has helped me stick with my goals. I can hardly believe that I am about to compete in my first powerlifting competition! I also feel like I have joined a community of lifters. My buddy training groups have been great and I have loved getting to know different people, plus the regular events let clients get to know each other.

– Kate Dawson | Google Review

An all-round joy

Thrive is just an all-round joy. Megan is a great personal trainer: informed, encouraging, and she adapts her varied programmes to your individual needs. I have gained physical strength and confidence along the way and unexpectedly enjoyed every minute, unexpectedly because I am NOT a natural gym attendee! Try it, you might just love it.
