The 5 Best ENT Specialists in Sydney for Expert Care

Surgical Qualifications: I prioritised doctors who hold Fellowships with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, since these surgeons also maintain active appointments at major local hospitals.

Subspecialty Depth: I looked for clinics offering advanced techniques like minimally invasive endoscopic ear surgery, and I valued practices that perform robotic head and neck procedures too.

Integrated Care: I selected practices that provide comprehensive on-site diagnostics for convenience, since quick audiograms or speech therapy referrals make a huge difference.

Patient Care: I looked for professionals known for explaining diagnoses clearly and keeping complication rates low, since good bedside manner matters enormously for anyone undergoing medical treatment.

Location Accessibility: I made sure to include accessible options across the CBD, North Shore, and Eastern Suburbs, since finding a clinic close to home or work removes a lot of stress.

An unexplained neck lump or persistent hoarseness brings instant panic. Anxious patients often assume a referral to an oncologist comes first, but an ENT specialist actually conducts the delicate biopsies and scopes needed to rule out serious illness.

A frightened family can’t afford an unsympathetic doctor, especially when large hospital desks treat people like routine paperwork. That high-stakes stress means nobody should have to gamble on surgical skill or bedside manner.

I decided to cut through the clinical red tape and evaluate local practitioners firsthand. I contacted surgical suites directly, visited clinic offices in person, and talked to local patients about their recoveries to uncover the best ENT specialists in Sydney.

Below is my guide to practitioners who provide gentle, dependable care.

How much does an ENT specialist charge in Sydney?

ENT specialists in Sydney typically charge between $250 and $500 AUD for initial consultations, with Medicare rebates slightly reducing your out-of-pocket gap fee.

Consultation TypeEstimated Upfront Cost (AUD)Medicare Rebate (AUD)Estimated Gap Fee (AUD)
Initial Consultation$250 – $500$85 – $88 (Item 104)$160 – $400
Follow-up / Review$160 – $180$43 – $44 (Item 105)$117 – $137

Address: Suite G6, Norwest Private Hospital, 11 Norbrik Drive, Bella Vista, 2153

Contact: (02) 9680-8800

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM | Saturday-Sunday, No Hours Listed

Dr. Narinder Singh & Associates is a strong option if you’re dealing with ongoing nose or sinus problems. The clinic is led by Dr. Singh, who focuses heavily on these conditions and currently heads the ENT department at Westmead Adult Hospital.

His clinic provides targeted treatments for blocked noses and snoring using functional endoscopic sinus surgery. I recently spoke with a colleague who saw him for severe sleep apnea and praised his thorough and calm approach.

I also like that he treats both adults and children with the same level of care and attention.

The main drawback is the waiting time. An initial appointment can take up to 18 months. However, the reception team may be able to fit you in sooner if another patient cancels.

Pros

  •
  • Heads the ENT department at Westmead Adult Hospital
  • Treats both adults and children
  • Uses functional endoscopic sinus surgery

Cons

  • Up to 18 months waiting list

Outstanding

I had a nasal septal deviation, and Dr. Narinder Singh performed my septoplasty surgery. The difference in my breathing is remarkable now, and I’m incredibly grateful. Dr. Singh’s professionalism and expertise are outstanding, and I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of similar care.

Highly, highly recommend

Dr Narinder Singh is the most professional and lovely specialist I’ve ever met. He performed surgery on me in early May this year after I suffered for years with chronic sinusitis, a deviated septum and allergies I didn’t even know about. After seeing Dr Singh, I can breathe easily through my nose for the first time, I have no more sinus pain and am finally managing my allergies effectively. Highly, highly recommend!

Address: Suite 2, Level 1, Building 2, 49 Frenchs Forest Road East, Frenchs Forest, 2086

Contact: (02) 9451-9883

Sydney Centre for Ear, Nose & Throat is a good choice for parents dealing with childhood ENT issues. Dr. Megan Hobson specialises in paediatric airway disorders and actively works at the Children’s Hospital Westmead.

She manages complex cases such as benign head masses and obstructive sleep apnea. The clinic also handles adult salivary gland disorders and nasal allergies

I like that her team takes a collaborative approach and focuses on keeping children safe and comfortable during treatment.

Another thing I appreciate is the focus on patient education. Dr. Hobson contributes to cross-speciality education for junior doctors and medical students. That emphasis on clear information can be useful for both children and adults.

Just remember that you’ll need a valid GP referral before booking a consultation.

Pros

  • Sub-specialises in paediatric airway disorders
  •
  • Handles adult salivary gland disorders
  • Actively trains junior doctors and trainees

Cons

  • Requires a GP referral

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend

Dr Saxby and his team are absolutely wonderful. From the initial consultation, everyone has been incredibly caring, professional and supportive. The communication and follow-up from all departments has been excellent, and I’ve felt very well looked after throughout the whole process. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Dr Saxby and his team.

3. My ENT Specialist

Address: St George Private Specialist Suites, Ste 504, Level 5/131 Princes Hwy, Kogarah, 2217

Contact: 1300 362 715

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM | Friday, 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM | Saturday-Sunday, No Hours Listed

My ENT Specialist stands out to me for its focus on complex ENT conditions and robotic surgery. The clinic is led by associate professor John McGuinness, who specialises in head and neck cancers and works with a highly coordinated team.

He has also established a multidisciplinary voice and airway clinic for complicated conditions. His expertise covers everything from straightforward tonsil problems to aggressive odontogenic tumours of the jaw.

He operates at Liverpool Public Hospital and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse with dedicated anaesthetists.

I think that coordinated approach can make a real difference when you’re dealing with a complex diagnosis or seeking cancer support services in Sydney. It’s also reassuring that the team works across different areas of specialist care.

The main drawback is the payment policy. The clinic doesn’t accept American Express for consultation payments. So I’d double-check your payment method before your visit.

Pros

  • Pioneers robotic head and neck surgery
  • Established a multidisciplinary voice clinic
  • Operates at major local public hospitals
  • Includes dedicated in-house anaesthetists

Cons

  • Doesn’t accept American Express

Really positive experience

My husbands visit to Dr McGuinness recently was a really positive experience. He explained all his options and made him feel very comfortable explaining it all. We are both feeling  positive about my husbands health being in his capable hands. Which is a great comfort to us. We felt he really cared and was concerned about making sure we understood all or options. A lovely man.

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM | Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM | Saturday-Sunday, No Hours Listed

Dr. Julia Crawford is a strong option if snoring or obstructive sleep apnea is affecting your daily energy and focus.

She focuses on sleep surgery and head and neck cancer. She has also completed international fellowships in Florida to develop her robotic and reconstructive surgical skills.

Her practice handles a wide range of conditions. These include adult sinus issues and pediatric grommet insertions. She also co-directs a surgical cadaver course where she teaches surgical techniques to other doctors.

I have a friend who underwent sinus surgery with Dr. Crawford and had an incredibly smooth recovery. That experience gives me another reason to view her practice positively.

The only practical issue to keep in mind is payment. If you’re paying your consultation fee in cash, you’ll need to bring exact change.

Pros

  • Focuses on sleep surgery and head cancers
  • Mastered robotic and reconstructive techniques
  •
  • Teaches surgical techniques to other doctors

Cons

  • Requires exact change for cash payments

A Great Experience

A great experience from start to finish. Reception are terrific. I observed them dealing with other patients and they did so with kindness and respect…first impressions count !

Dr Crawford has that (increasingly) rare set of qualities in a practitioner. Patient focussed, clear and concise information and an evidence based approach. Her calm, confident manner encoraged me to have a minor procedure on the spot. Great outcome along with a big saving in time (and expense). Highly recommend this practice if you want clinical excellence and peace of mind.

Contact: (02) 9380-5380

Dr. Sean Flanagan is worth considering if you need specialist care for complex ear or skull base conditions. He’s a dual fellowship-trained ENT specialist who sub-specialises in diseases of the skull base, including conditions affecting the inner ear.

His expertise covers cochlear implantations and vestibular schwannomas. He holds appointments at St Vincent’s Hospital and several other private facilities across Sydney.

Whether you’re dealing with sudden hearing changes or routine ear infections, he develops clear and tailored treatment plans

I also like that he handles everyday concerns such as pediatric tonsillectomies.

Beyond his clinical work, he serves as a conjoint lecturer at the University of New South Wales and helps guide upcoming medical professionals.

The main thing to remember is the Friday schedule. The clinic closes at 3:00 PM that day, so Friday appointments have slightly shorter hours.

Pros

  • Sub-specialises in diseases of the skull base
  • Performs cochlear implantations and surgeries
  • Holds appointments at multiple major hospitals
  • Serves as a conjoint lecturer at UNSW

Cons

  • Operates with shorter hours on Fridays

One of the most professional ENT’s I’ve ever come across

Dr Flanagan is one of the most professional ENT’s I’ve ever come across. He never rushed the first consult for my son and we had a clear plan with follow up which is missing from other Dr’s. Thanks so much again.

Sara Talebloo | Google Review

He is extremely friendly and professional

I saw Dr Flanagan today. He is extremely friendly and professional. Although he couldn’t help with my issue, as not ear based,  he explained everything thoroughly. With his level of knowledge, friendliness and professionalism I would recommend him to anyone.
