1. Paramount Coffee Project

Website: http://www.paramountcoffeeproject.com.au/
Address: 80 Commonwealth St, Surry Hills, Sydney
Contact: [email protected]
Hours: Monday – Sunday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Surry Hills locals love Paramount Coffee Project for its rotating guest roasters and bright, light-filled space. The open mid-century design also creates a great backdrop for catching up with friends over brunch.
As for the food and drinks, this busy neighbourhood café pairs international beans with a creative menu featuring yuzu French toast and fried chicken sandos.
You can also expect to find something new to try, from single-origin espresso to a delicate V60 pour-over.
However, there’s one thing to keep in mind if you’re dining with a group. They don’t allow bill splitting at the counter, which can be frustrating when everyone wants to pay separately after a meal.
Highly recommended
The coolest new coffee shop in Surry Hills: Serving Reuben Hills coffee, in Acme cups (from NZ!) they’re part of a new Paramount Building ‘collection’ of cute little shops and bars. Go there and have a delicious brunch, and then maybe hire a hipster bike, cruise around Surry Hills, have a drink at the bar downstairs and see a movie at the cinema – you could totally spend the whole day there. Highly recommended!

I had 3 cups of coffee in one sitting
If you were looking for a reason to believe that Sydney has the best coffee in the world, Paramount Coffee Project is the answer. You know that feeling you get while drinking a really good cup of coffee, where you never want it to end, where everything is good in the world for that one brief moment? Well, every cup here delivers on that promise. I had 3 cups of coffee in one sitting. It’s that good.

2. Industry Beans York St

Address: 38 – 40 York Street, Sydney
Contact: 02 9188 8501
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM | Saturday – Sunday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Industry Beans York St stands out in the CBD for serving their own custom-roasted signature blends. This café pairs vibrant espresso options like Fitzroy Street with creative brunch dishes, including coffee-spiced hollandaise eggs.
A customer we spoke with who stopped by recently said the head barista happily explained the sweet fruit notes in their flat white. They also appreciated the fast table service, which makes this spot a handy morning stop for busy professionals.
Plus, the sleek interior gives you a comfortable corner to answer emails before your next meeting.
Sadly, you won’t find traditional smoky dark roasts here. The team focuses exclusively on lighter, modern roast profiles, which might disappoint fans of classic Italian-style espresso.
Lovely coffee shop
Elsy is so nice and tells us about the menu giving the recommendation for breakfast with friends. Such a lovely coffee shop, i ordered filter coffee and friends cappuccino also flat white, been here before and come back next time.

Their coffees are always on point
One of my favourite coffee shop in the cbd. I was from Melbourne so I knew this coffee roaster since 2017. Have been a huge fan of their coffee bubble cup since then. Their coffees are always on point and they also have a user app to earn points every time you purchase their coffees and brunch. Delicious brunch menu with seasonal changes. Must try is definitely the wagyu coffee rubbed burger. Nice staff and knowledgeable baristas. Complementary sparkling water when you dine in as well which is a bonus point especially on a hot day.

3. Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters

Address: 32-36 City Rd, Chippendale
Contact: 1300 074 178

Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters breaks down the usual café barriers with a central island brew bar that lets guests chat directly with the baristas.
Their Chippendale flagship has also earned global recognition, taking top honours at the World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops Gala.
A customer we spoke with said their rich, full-bodied Woolloomooloo espresso showed exactly why this café remains a local favourite.
The retail shelves are just as tempting, with freshly roasted beans that make a great gift or treat for yourself. You can even grab toasted baguettes and flaky pastries for a quick, filling breakfast.
But there’s one catch for afternoon coffee runs. The café closes at 3:00 PM daily, which can be inconvenient for remote workers looking for a late caffeine fix.
Amazing coffees
The coffees are amazing. I had the single origin coffee from Costa Rica with milk (controversial, I know) but completely underrated. It was creamy, fruity, and naturally sweet. The toasties and sandwiches are also delicious. We had the wagyu beef and pickles, and the smashed avocado on toast, both of which were toasted perfectly. The staff are friendly and very quick. The store has a great modern ambience, and there’s a view of the bean roasters out back.

Excellent coffee
The Toby’s Estate cafe makes an excellent coffee. They stock a reasonable range of pastries and have an even better breakfast/lunch menu. But the best thing about the place is the coffee. They have regular deliveries of different single origin beans each week. The Kenyan Malimbe, Costa Rican Perla Negra and the Ethiopean Yirgacheffe are all brilliant. The Ethiopian Sidamo is also great with a strong blueberry flavour.

ONA Coffee Sydney offers an expansive tasting menu featuring rare Panama Geishas, experimental fermentations, and rotating African single origins. This warehouse is a great spot for serious coffee fans who want to try competition-level beans.
A customer we spoke with usually makes their own cold brew concentrate at home using a coarse grind, but said ONA’s vibrant, fruit-forward filter coffees completely blew them away.
The kitchen also pairs those bright cups with adventurous dishes like spicy tteokbokki, French toast, and tuna melts. Plus, the knowledgeable staff can guide you through new flavour profiles and brewing styles.
However, you’ll need to plan weekend visits carefully because the last table seating is strictly at 2:15 PM. Arrive later, and you’ll miss out on the dine-in menu.
Exceptional coffee
Visited ONA Coffee Sydney in Marrickville, and it truly lives up to its reputation.
The coffee was exceptional — rich aroma, layered taste, and perfect extraction that highlights the beans’ character. The baristas were passionate and knowledgeable, taking time to explain the origins and flavor profiles. The minimalist interior and calm atmosphere made it a perfect spot to slow down and enjoy the moment.

5. Campos Coffee Newtown

Website: https://www.camposcoffee.com/flagships
Address: 193 Missenden Road, Newtown

Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Saturday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Sunday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Campos Coffee Newtown is the historic flagship storefront that helped launch a massive national roasting legacy. This well-loved Inner West spot continues to serve excellent flat whites using their signature Superior blend.
You can expect rich, comforting notes of sweet caramel and red currant in every cup. Plus, the skilled baristas dial in adventurous light roasts, such as the fruity Blade Runner blend, for espresso drinkers who prefer extra clarity.
If you’re exploring King Street, you can easily grab a fresh takeaway cup to keep you fuelled along the way.
But you’ll want to expect some crowds during busy periods. This compact shop sits along the heavily congested Missenden Road commuter corridor, so morning visits can feel pretty cramped.
Trendy coffee shop
Splendid experience ~ being a huge fan of Campos, love this trendy coffee shop. 50 cents extra you can try their everyday’d offering, a variety of blends or single origin. Warm-welcoming team, can’t complain at all! Only thing you might worry is that, you might need to wait for a seat there since it is too popular!

Best coffee and service in the inner west
Consistently the best coffee and service in the inner west. Would highly recommend. Newtown Campos is iconic and the cafe is always fresh and buzzy. The head guy Dan leads an awesome team of baristas who really know their coffee, are super passionate and are always friendly.
If you want amazing small batch single origin or just your regular coffee made perfectly, this is definitely the place to go.
