1. Perth Fine Art Tuition

Website: https://perthfinearttuition.com.au/
Address: 59 Guildford Rd, Mount Lawley
Contact: 0430 845 034
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Working directly with Anna Gardiner, a professional artist with 30 years of teaching experience, gives you focused guidance that large classrooms simply can’t match.
She holds a Diploma of Fine Art from Claremont School of Art, bringing serious technical knowledge to every session.
We actually dropped by her Mount Lawley studio to watch a session, and the quiet concentration in the room felt immediately productive. Instruction runs privately or in pairs, so your lessons adapt to your specific personal goals.
Shift workers and fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) workers can also book fortnightly slots or casual catch-ups.
Just keep in mind that classes only cover oil and acrylic painting. You’ll need to find another studio if you want printmaking or clay work.

She makes everything feel easy and fun
Anna’s oil painting class is amazing! She makes everything feel easy and fun, even if you’ve never touched a paintbrush before. She’s super patient, explains things in a way that actually makes sense, and really encourages you to be creative. Really enjoyed the time spent in her studio

2. Perth Art Academy

Website: https://www.perthartacademy.com/
Address: 4/201 High Street, Fremantle
Contact: Contact via website
Hours: Monday-Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM | Wednesday, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM, 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Learning traditional painting techniques demands mentors who have practiced the craft for decades. Founder Peter Barker trained classically in Italy, while fellow tutor Todd Millias brings over thirty years of industry experience from studios like Nickelodeon.
Their eight-week programs walk beginners and experienced painters through essential drawing values, colour mixing, and form. Serious draftsmen can start with charcoal fundamentals before tackling human anatomy in advanced life classes.
Working adults will also appreciate the flexible timetable, which includes evening sessions alongside Saturday and Sunday courses.
The downside is that supplies aren’t bundled into the $650 course fee. You’ll have to purchase your own paints and canvases upfront.

I’ve learnt far more in this clas
The Master’s Techniques with Peter was my first art class, and I definitely recommend. He’s able to cater to different skill levels in the small class, and give everyone plenty of time for guidance and advice. I’ve learnt far more in this class than I have trying to teach myself from YouTube videos – the value of a practical teacher can’t be overstated Thanks Peter!

The people were great, the course was fantastic
As a complete beginner, I was looking for a course that could help get me back into art after 25 years. Peter’s teaching style made me feel instantly at ease, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of the course. The people were great, the course was fantastic, looking forward to the next one.

3. North Metropolitan TAFE

Address: 25 Aberdeen Street
Contact: 1300 300 822

Earning an accredited qualification requires practical training grounded in real workplace skills. The lecturers at North Metropolitan Technical and Further Education (TAFE) stay active in local creative industries through regular professional placements.
Studying at the Northbridge campus places you right beside the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA).
From there, the Certificate IV in Visual Arts lets you explore printmaking, digital art, sculpture, and painting. Plus, the dedicated ceramics facilities offer the only accredited pathway to a ceramics qualification in Western Australia.
However, getting in isn’t as simple as signing up for a casual weekend workshop. You’ll need to meet academic requirements, including Year 11 English and mathematics benchmarks, before you can enrol.
4. Galleria Art Studio

Website: https://galleriaartstudio.com.au/
Address: Unit 2, 6 Barnett Court, Morley
Contact: 0401 204 338
Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM | Saturday, 10:30 AM – 12:30 AM
Building your skills at an established art school can give you extra peace of mind. Founder Karen Frankel started Galleria Art Studio in 2003, and the school has been helping developing artists in its Morley studio for years.
For adults, classes cover acrylics, drawing, oils, and watercolours with guidance from experienced tutors. We spoke with one adult student who said instructor David Jay Reed, who holds a Master of Arts, made her feel welcome during her first session.
Plus, complete beginners can join ongoing drawing groups at any point without feeling left behind.
Just keep in mind, you’ll need to pay for a full term before you start. The studio doesn’t offer single trial sessions or partial term payments if you miss a class, so you’ll want to make sure the schedule works for you.

Address: 2A/5 Hayden Ct, Myaree

Studying fine art shouldn’t always mean signing up for an inflexible multi-month agreement. Founder Daria Sulgane holds degrees in classical fine art and graphic design and brings 12 years of local teaching experience to her Myaree studio.
For adults, the casual per-class payment option works well if your work schedule changes from week to week.
The studio also gives you plenty of time to practise, with sessions lasting up to four and a half hours and covering techniques like glazing and impasto.
Teens can work on large canvases and experiment with gold leaf. They can practise creative techniques similar to professional face painting for events.
However, adult class times are fairly limited, since regular sessions are only held on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings.
