The Best Dance Studios in Canberra for Every Style

Instructor Expertise and Qualifications: We carefully checked the background and mentoring experience of the teaching staff at each location.

Our focus was on finding instructors who provide genuine guidance and structural support rather than just teaching basic steps.

Inclusivity and Studio Atmosphere: We evaluated how welcoming each space feels for absolute beginners and diverse communities.

It was essential to highlight environments that focus on personal growth and confidence without unnecessary pressure.

Pricing Fairness and Accessibility: We looked closely at the overall value of the classes, including introductory trials and student discounts. Our team prioritized studios that offer transparent rates and affordable options for local families.

Scheduling and Location Logistics: We analyzed how easily students can access classes around standard working or schooling hours. This involved checking public transit connections and parking convenience.

Finding the right place to express yourself or break a sweat can completely transform your weekly routine.

If you’re searching for the best dance studio in Canberra, navigating the city’s vibrant movement scene to pick the perfect fit can feel overwhelming. That’s why we did the heavy lifting to evaluate local options based on style and overall value.

Here is our detailed breakdown of the premier spots to get moving locally.

If you want to explore professional instruction in other cities, check out some exceptional dance classes across the country, too.

1. Passion & Purpose Academy

Website: passionandpurpose.com.au

Address: 20 Wimmera St, Harrison ACT 2914

Contact: 0484 324 042 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday 3:30 – 9:00 PM; Saturday 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Passion & Purpose Academy fosters an inclusive space that emphasizes community growth and authentic cultural movement.

This exceptional program stands out as Australia’s only multicultural studio specializing in Afro dance and hip hop foundations. Classes are taught by global African professionals who tour internationally.

They operate with a deep focus on youth mentorship, utilizing the director’s fifteen years of experience as a regional education department youth worker to build self-belief. They provide an incredible environment that goes way beyond teaching simple choreography.

Families we spoke to love how budget-friendly the sessions are, especially since concert proceeds directly fund scholarships for disadvantaged youth.

While the physical studio up in the Harrison area presents a bit of a commute bottleneck for families living down south, their mobile team actively brings programs into local schools to ease that burden.

Pros

  • Highly budget-friendly session rates
  • Active mobile school outreach programs
  • Led by a certified youth mentor
  • Authentic Afro and street styles

Cons

  • Commute bottleneck for southern residents

True source of growth, mentorship, and confidence

Passion & Purpose is an outstanding dance company that has been a true source of growth, mentorship, and confidence for my daughters.

K.G. and Carly, the owners, are deeply committed to their students, creating a space where every dancer feels safe, valued, and able to express themselves. Their dedication goes beyond just teaching dance; they foster a supportive, inclusive, and multicultural community that empowers every dancer to thrive. If you’re looking for a place to develop your skills and be part of something meaningful, Passion & Purpose is the perfect choice.

Owners have been very good mentors

Passion and purpose is the best multicultural dance school in Canberra, very inclusive. I was so happy when my daughter joined as the owners have been very good mentors to my daughter through all the tough times she experienced in school. If your children are serious about dance you will not be disappointed by the passion and purpose family. This group is just amazing.

Address: 28 Astrolabe St, Red Hill

Contact: 0421 798 490 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday 6:00 PM – 9:30 PM; Saturday to Sunday 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Diving into rhythmic Latin culture is incredibly easy with Kokoloco Dance Studio. They offer over twenty-five distinct movement styles under one roof.

The school serves as a fantastic hub for authentic Brazilian Samba and Latin rhythms, drawing on two decades of specialized entertainment expertise.

I recently chatted with a parent whose child attends their unique Brazilian Samba class for kids, and she couldn’t stop raving about how much her daughter’s confidence has grown.

I love that the studio structures its lessons toward an optional end-of-term showcase, allowing participants to enjoy a structured path without the anxiety of forced performances.

However, the schedule relies on rigid eight-week blocks, which might be tricky if your personal routine changes frequently. Advanced classes are also strictly invite-only, meaning seasoned dancers must complete lower levels first.

Pros

  • Convenient South Canberra location
  • Exclusive children’s Samba classes
  • Over twenty-five dance genres
  • Optional low-pressure performance showcases

Cons

  • Rigid eight-week term commitments
  • Advanced classes are strictly invite-only

Made every lesson so much fun

We had the best time learning to dance with Becky! She made every lesson so much fun and really took the time to get to know us, which made all the difference. Her care, patience, and encouragement gave us the confidence we needed to dance in front of 140 people on our big day. What could have been a nerve-wracking experience became one of our favourite parts of wedding prep. We can’t recommend her enough!

Really enjoyed our lessons

We highly recommend Becky’s services and are so grateful for her assistance in helping us pull together and amazing first dance! The crowd loved it and we really enjoyed our lessons with Kokoloco. We really appreciate Becky’s skill and patience in designing a custom dance and teaching two absolute newcomers.

Contact: +61 422 014 486 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Tuesday 6:00 PM – 9:30 PM; Wednesday 5:00 PM – 9:30 PM; Thursday 6:00 PM – 9:30 PM; Friday 6:30 PM – 12:00 AM

Stepping onto the floor for the first time feels effortless with Latin Dance Canberra School. They provide an ultra-affordable introductory rate alongside a highly structured curriculum.

They make partner dancing accessible through a fantastic ten-dollar weekly trial for newcomers and massive fifty percent discounts for academic students.

Just like local piano schools that structure their terms for steady progression, this establishment relies on clear six-week blocks to guide dancers from foundation steps to intricate footwork drills.

I think the evening timetable perfectly accommodates busy professionals, offering energetic group classes in Salsa and Bachata.

On the downside, the tuition fee doubles when you advance to higher-tier levels. Plus, the bustling central business district location means there’s no dedicated parking, so you’ll have to navigate paid public lots before heading upstairs.

Pros

  • Central business district location
  • Deep student tuition discounts
  • Evening schedules for workers
  • Clear tier progression blocks

Cons

  • No dedicated on-site parking
  • Fees double for advanced levels

Full of energy, music, and heart

Such a lovely team! 💃🕺 Everyone at Latin Dance Canberra is super warm, helpful and genuinely passionate about what they do. You can really feel the good vibes and community spirit the moment you walk in. It’s a place full of energy, music, and heart ❤️ Highly recommend! …

Very positive, happy and enjoyable

My partner and I joined a couple of months ago and we enjoy every minute we spend at Latin Dance Canberra.  It is nice making friends, learning new moves and seeing our progression. So much more to learn and we are both excited for the journey.

Amit has led our classes and he is a wealth of knowledge. He makes the environment very positive, happy and enjoyable. I highly recommend coming along and joining the fun.

Website: https://www.6thposition.au/

Address: 54 Northbourne Ave

Contact: 0403 282 125 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM; Saturday to Sunday 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Skipping the pressure of dancing alongside nimble youngsters is a massive relief for anyone starting their movement journey later in life. 6th Position is an adult-centric studio that focuses entirely on dancers aged sixteen and up.

The entire community focuses heavily on creating an inclusive and supportive space for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) community.

When I tried one of their specialized foundations classes last month, the welcoming atmosphere instantly melted away my coordination anxieties. Plus, I love that they provide a highly flexible drop-in setup that fits hectic schedules perfectly.

However, they enforce strict minimum headcount requirements, meaning a session might get canceled if fewer than four people enroll.

On top of that, there are no free single trials available, so you have to purchase a multi-week pass or pay the full drop-in rate to test the waters.

Pros

  • Direct light rail transit access
  • Comfortable capped class sizes
  • Automated app waitlist management
  • Convenient local parking solutions

Cons

  • Minimum session attendance requirements
  • No free single trial options

Teachers are incredibly patient, friendly, and professional

I genuinely enjoy dancing at this studio. The teachers are incredibly patient, friendly, and professional. They offer a wide range of classes — I’ve taken jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, tap, ballet, hip-hop, and heels, and every class has been such a positive experience.

I started as a complete beginner in jazz, and now I’ve even been able to pass a community musical theatre audition! No matter your level, you’ll always find classes that suit you here and truly enjoy the joy of dancing. Highly recommend!

Teachers help to build confidence and skills

Tap classes at 6th Position are invariably welcoming, inclusive and fun. No matter your experience level, the teachers help to build confidence and skills in a safe-to-fail environment which celebrates all progress and attempts. The rotation of teachers means more exposure to different styles which increases variety and interest. In particular, Chloe’s teaching in the Tap Foundations class is supportive, encouraging, enjoyable and makes you want to keep coming back for more!

5. Move Me Studios | Canberra Salsa

Website: https://canberrasalsa.com.au/

Address: Level 1/83 Petrie Plaza

Contact: +61 489 072 774

Hours: Tuesday to Wednesday 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM; Saturday 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM; Sunday 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Joining a welcoming collective that gets you out onto real social dance floors right away turns learning into an exciting lifestyle. Move Me Studios focuses on deep progression through four-week starter courses and comprehensive six-month programs.

They completely bypass disjointed drop-in schedules. Absolute beginners can take advantage of completely free introductory classes held almost every single week without needing to bring a partner along.

They even offer focused training in Europe’s popular Sensual Bachata style alongside unique workshops centered on full-body awareness.

But you’ll have to plan your travel carefully since their classes are split across different regional venues depending on the genre.

For example, your Salsa classes take place on weekends out in Belconnen, while Bachata sessions require a weekday trip into the city center.

Pros

  • Multiple regional venue locations
  • Structured long-term training paths
  • Risk-free weekly introductory classes
  • Affordable dedicated practice sessions

Cons

  • Separate venues based on style
