The 5 best pet shops in Brisbane that pet owners keep coming back to

Wide range of products and services: We figured you’d want stores that offer everything you could need in one convenient stop. So we looked for pet shops with more than the basics, such as premium or special diet foods, fun accessories, grooming stations, and even adoptable pets.

Healthy and well-cared for animals: For shops that sell pets, we made sure they maintain clean, comfortable spaces and treat their animals with proper care. Their puppies, kittens, and other furry (or feathery) friends are healthy, active, and ready for loving homes.

Knowledgeable and friendly staff: We chose shops where the staff are genuinely passionate about animals. That means they’re always open to give advice on food, grooming, or training without making you feel rushed or pressured.

Customer reviews: Stores that earned strong praise for great service, product quality, and pet care easily made it to our list. We read through online reviews and spoke with regular customers to single them out, paying close attention to their experiences.

Convenience and accessibility: Be it a central location, flexible hours, or easy parking, we also considered how hassle-free it is to visit. After all, shopping for or with your pets should be as stress-free as playtime in the park.

I buy my Shih Tzu’s food from the same place where she gets a well-deserved spa day. It’s both fun and comforting to watch her enjoy being blow-dried and trimmed, knowing that afterward, she’ll happily join me and run straight to the treats and toys section—just like always.

We’ve been going to that store ever since we realized how convenient it is, how well they care for my furry friend, and how much she loves their products. Now, isn’t that what every pet parent hopes for?

No wonder many pet owners keep coming back to these best pet shops in Brisbane. Stocked with premium food and quality accessories plus expert grooming and healthy puppies or kittens ready for a new home, they truly have it all.

How much does it cost to buy from pet shops in Brisbane?

Buying from pet shops in Brisbane can cost anywhere from under $10 for small treats and toys to over $100 for premium food or grooming services. Animal prices range between a few hundred dollars for small pets and $2,000+ for specialty breeds.

Regulars at Pet City usually buy food, toys, accessories, and enclosures for their cats, fish, dogs, or guinea pigs. As they do, they appreciate the friendly staff’s advice and assistance—many noting how knowledgeable and passionate they are about what they do.

First-time visitors are often amazed by the shop’s large space, feeling like they could find everything they need. And it’s true—others have tried the $10 DIY dog wash or the $9.95 nail clipping, and brought home healthy reptiles and birds from the well-kept display areas.

One thing to consider when buying animals, though, is that a few customers reported being given sick fish that contaminated their aquariums. In addition, some online buyers mentioned that Pet City should consider changing its courier after receiving dented boxes.

Still, the quality, competitive pricing, and timely delivery of their products continue to draw pet parents in and keep them coming back. Their beds and cat trees remain sturdy, prices start as low as $3.10, and express orders placed before 9:00 AM arrive quickly.

Pros

  • Friendly & knowledgeable staff
  • Spacious, well-stocked store
  • Affordable grooming & wash services
  • Healthy, well-kept animals available
  • Durable products
  • Fast delivery

Cons

  • Occasional reports of sick fish
  • Faulty courier service

Approachable, knowledgeable staff, well-maintained fish displays, and reasonable prices

“Great shop with lots of variety for all sorts of pets from your usual furbabies to aquatic, to reptile, to birds and even spiders. Have always found the staff approachable and somewhat knowledgeable depending upon who you get and what their expertise is. The aquarium and fish displays are well laid out and well maintained. There is a very wide a varied range of accessories for all the pet types as well. The prices are reasonable but a Club membership will save you heaps and as you know, any pet can cost heaps but one can’t put a price on love, or obsession I guess. I’ve been visiting for over 20 years plus and they still provide the same great service with a smile.”

Helpful food recommendations, massive store, and the cat tree I bought is very strong

“The staff there were very helpful and knowledgeable about recommendations for food. The store is massive and seems to having everything you could possibly want for your pets. The cat tree I bought is very strong and seems that it will last a lot longer then the ones I’ve bought in the past at other stores. Highly recommend for all your pet needs. They have snakes! Fish, birds and all sorts of other animals.”

It’s not just the pet parents who love visiting PetO Fortitude Valley—the pets do, too, especially dogs, who enjoy the staff’s welcome pats and goodbye treats. Meanwhile, the parents are more impressed by the clean, organized aisles and the wide variety of products on display.

PetO’s spacious layout also makes it easier for buyers to browse food (from $20.99), toys (from $8.99), and beds (from $59.99) for their cats and dogs. However, outdated signage has occasionally misled guinea pig and rabbit owners searching for hay (from $17.99).

It helps that the store’s employees are known to be approachable and ready to assist. That said, weekends bring busier crowds, which some shoppers find less appealing—even leaving others to peruse and select what they need on their own.

On the bright side, customers handle the DIY dog wash well independently—thanks to it coming complete with shampoo, conditioner, flea rinse, and a blow dryer. Plus, many look forward to in-store events like the Happy Tails Animal Rescue for a chance to adopt a new pet.

Pros

  • Enjoyable entry pats & exit treats
  • Clean, organized aisles
  • Spacious layout
  • DIY dog wash available
  • Approachable & attentive staff
  • In-store adoption events

Cons

  • Misleading, outdated signage
  • Busy weekend crowds

Impressive range, well-organized, and helpful staff—shopping here is always pleasant

“PetO Fortitude Valley (formerly My Pet Warehouse) is a great pet store! Prices are reasonable, and the range of products is impressive — from pet food and treats to toys and grooming supplies. The store is clean, well-organized, and easy to navigate. The staff are especially friendly and helpful, always willing to assist and provide useful advice. Shopping here is always a pleasant experience. Highly recommended for all pet owners!”

Easy pet baths—when all done, the lovely staff gave my dog some treats

“My dog JubJub doesn’t really like being bathed. I used to bathe her at home with a handheld shower but we moved and I no longer have one. The pet baths at PetO were easy for her to jump into (despite not wanting to) and gave me plenty of time to get her washed and conditioned. When it was all done, the staff gave her some treats. They were lovely.”

Brisbane residents dreaming of becoming pet parents go to Puppy Palace Pet Shop for a happy, healthy pup. There, they’re greeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff who coordinate the collection process and ensure first-time dog moms or dads leave well-informed.

The team did well, as Cavoodles, Mini-Dachshunds, and Maltzus now settled nicely into their new homes. They also recommend the French Bulldog to those who prefer a calm yet affectionate companion and the Border Collie for an intelligent, agile furbaby.

Clients get to view details about available breeds on the ‘Puppies In Store Now’ page in Puppy Palace’s website. Starting at $895, all these pups have already been dewormed, flea-treated, and vaccinated twice—not forgetting the free after-purchase vet check-up.

While most like that they can also buy food and supplies at the shop, a handful of clients wish the products were more affordable. For others, beds at $24.95–$59.95, cushions at $19.95–$51.50, and house dog kennels at $59.95–$124.95 stretch beyond their budget.

Pros

  • Friendly, knowledgeable staff
  • Well-informed first-time owners
  • Variety of breeds available
  • Healthy, vaccinated puppies
  • Free after-purchase vet check

Cons

  • Higher pricing
  • Less budget-friendly beddings & kennels

Good, knowledgeable staff, organized collection time, and puppies are well-cared for

“During the past three weeks we have been involved in the purchase of a new puppy. Because of word of mouth we decided to visit puppy palace. The staff are very good. They take good care of the puppies and are knowledgeable. In accordance with their initial commitment they contacted us to allow us to select our puppy and organise a time for collection. Recommended to other prospective puppy buyers.”

The $57.35 Royal Canin Cat Indoor, $195 Hill’s Science Diet, and $14.95 Forage Small Parrot Blend are some of Pets Unleashed’s top picks. Add in flea and tick treatments like Seresto ($56.95) and NexGard Spectra ($118.95) that also come highly recommended by customers.

Guiding shoppers through these products are staff described as extraordinarily knowledgeable, attentive, and patient. Some even shared that the team showed extra care for their nervous rescue dogs or accommodated them still despite dropping by near closing time.

Fish owners looking for more fish or a tank upgrade, and a mom in search of crickets for her son’s lizard, also go home with what they need. Even so, a couple of customers pointed out that the less experienced junior employees tend to be nicer than the senior staff.

Many overlook that drawback, focusing instead on quality toys and pet tech like the $7.50 large Squeaker Ball and the $343.95 PetSafe Automatic Dog and Cat Feeder. Amid it all, though, parents notice the absence of a grooming station, which the store has yet to offer.

Pros

  • Premium pet food brands available
  • Effective flea & tick treatments
  • Attentive, patient staff
  • Broad animal coverage
  • Quality toys & pet tech

Cons

  • Inconsistent staff courtesy
  • No grooming station

I go here regularly—friendly, extraordinarily knowledgeable, always helpful staff

“I go here regularly for dried food for my son’s dog and crickets for his lizard. Staff are friendly, extraordinarily knowledgeable and always helpful. I like going there.”

Understanding to my new rescue dog, great assistance, and we got what we needed

“We took our new rescue dog here to choose a new halter to help with his issues pulling on the lead when walking. He is a nervous dog in new places so we were a bit concerned. The two people working in the store were so lovely and understanding, giving us plenty of space but also providing great assistance and advice when we needed it. They really helped us and our dog feel calm and we ended up getting exactly what we needed.”

Part of what makes Brisbane Pet Super Store “super” is that many of its customers are after a baby bearded dragon, a large snake vivarium, or healthy crickets and springtails for their frogs—and the store has them. It truly goes well beyond the usual furry or feathery pets.

With reptile enclosures starting at $315, bird flight cages at $59.95, rodent food at $8.09, and dog and cat treats at $5.99, pet owners see it as a great deal. What makes it better is the staff’s informative and respectful way of giving advice or showing healthy kittens for sale.

Several visitors also praise the store’s care for such exotic animals, but there’ve been reports of injured lizards, snakes in dry water bowls, and pet rats kept in fish tanks without ventilation. Not to mention a few rude employees who tend to brush off customers raising these concerns.

For all that, some clients still say there’s no other pet shop they’d rather visit than Pet Super Store. Their reasons include the place’s cleanliness, the click-and-collect option (order online and pick up in-store), and the team’s impressive fish knowledge and upkeep.

Pros

  • Products covering multiple species
  • Affordable essentials
  • Clean store
  • Informative staff with fish expertise
  • Click-and-collect option available

Cons

  • Inconsistent exotic animal care
  • Occasional rude employees

Widest selection of pet goods, looks after exotic animals, and staff are so helpful

“The widest selection of pet goods I’ve seen in a good while. Not only do they cater to regular pets, but also have so much for more ‘exotic’ animals. I’m not usually one for live animals in shops but you can tell they really look after them and push for responsible pet ownership – not just impulse buys. Their infographics and of course staff are so helpful with accurate and essential knowledge. Will be visiting again.”

Ordered a large snake vivarium—very helpful staff, great prices, and a variety of products

“Great staff, very helpful. Ordered a large snake vivarium and didn’t realise how big it was and they helped with putting it in the car. Great prices and variety of products.”
